A strong commitment to Sustainable Development and a correct balance between economic value creation, environmental protection and social responsibility has recently led Italgen to obtain RECS certification, a voluntary mechanism for international trade in renewable energy certificates.
RECS certify the production of electricity from renewable sources for a minimum size of 1 MWh, promoting green energy power generation by plants whose production would be uneconomical.
Our Company currently produces electricity through 14 hydroelectric power plants located in Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto and 1 thermal power plant in Lombardy, interconnected through a network of approximately 400 kilometers of corporate power lines.
The total production of electricity from renewable energy sources in 2007 was approximately 218 GWh, mostly feeding Italcementi Group’s cement plants.
The company is strongly committed to manage industrial activities in full compliance with the environment and local stakeholders using the best available technologies.
Our sustainable projects of international expansion are focusing on the construction of wind farms in the Mediterranean Rim and Eastern Europe, including Egypt, Morocco and Turkey.
